A 16-year-old Ohio boy died nearly three weeks after he was injured while trying to dunk a basketball during a pickup game.

Noah Lear's family said the boy succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Lear's mother, Melissa Griffin, told the Galion Inquirer that the Bucyrus boy was playing basketball at Calvary Baptist Church when the backboard and rim came down on him as he tried to dunk.

Bucyrus school officials said Noah played basketball and was popular with students and teachers. Bucyrus Secondary School Principal Mark Burke said it's a challenging time for students and staff and grief counseling will continue to be available to students and staff.
