7:27 p.m.

Parked police cars are lining the road to Prince George's Hospital Center in Maryland, where authorities say a police officer critically wounded in a shooting was taken earlier.

Several officers crowded into the hospital's lobby by Sunday evening. The officers stood there quietly while waiting to learn details about the officer's condition from their chief after the shooting near a police station in Landover. There was no immediate indication when authorities might speak publicly about the shooting.

Earlier, police had said that the officer was critically wounded and that two suspects were in custody.

Assistant Fire Chief Alan Doubleday also says another person also was shot Sunday and was taken to the same hospital.

Officials say the shooting occurred at a community center next to the Landover police station in Prince George's County, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Police had initially posted a message on Twitter asking residents to avoid the area and to stay inside because of a possible "active shooter" situation. Police later said they didn't believe there were any other suspects.

Other details weren't immediately released, and the suspects weren't immediately identified.
