Police say a man fired several gunshots through the wall of his Massachusetts apartment, striking a woman lying in her own bed next door.

The woman was shot in the ankle around midnight Wednesday in Ayer and taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately available.

Police arrested Treyvon Choate on firearms and assault and battery charges. It could not immediately be determined if he had a lawyer who could comment on the accusations.

Investigators say he fired the gun into his wall and the bullets went into the adjoining unit.

Police say while they were investigating they were notified by the Probation Department's electronic monitoring service that Choate had removed a court-ordered tracking bracelet moments after the shooting.
