The Latest on a shooting by Salt Lake City police and unrest downtown following the shooting (all times local):

Salt Lake City police say several people were arrested for throwing rocks and bottles at police after officers shot a male wielding a broomstick Saturday night.

Detective Greg Wilking had few details Sunday about the shooting or identities of those involved but said police planned to release more information later Sunday.

Wilking did not know exactly how many people were arrested for throwing objects at police after the shooting.

He says officers cleared several streets surrounding the area and asked bystanders to leave. He says the unrest only went on for a matter of minutes but police closed down streets for hours.

The Unified Police Department is investigating the shooting.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen says there were pockets of civil disturbance from angry bystanders for several hours afterward.

Two Salt Lake City police officers are on administrative leave after one or both shot a male wielding a broomstick in the city's downtown.

Salt Lake City Police Detective Greg Wilking had few details Sunday about the shooting or identities involved but said police planned to release more information later Sunday afternoon.

Another police department is investigating the shooting.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen says the officers were called to break up a fight and found a male hitting someone with a broomstick.

Wilking and Hansen did not have details about the male's identity or age. Hansen says the male was shot twice and was in critical condition early Sunday.

A witness told The Salt Lake Tribune that the male was a teenager and friend.

A Utah police department is investigating a Saturday night shooting by Salt Lake City police that injured one man and triggered hours of unrest in a downtown neighborhood.

Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen says two Salt Lake City officers were called to break up a fight and found a male hitting someone with a broomstick.

Hansen says the male tried to attack one of the officers and one or both of the officers shot the male twice in the torso.

Hansen did not have details about the male's identity or age, but said he was in critical condition early Sunday. A witness told The Salt Lake Tribune that the male was a teenager and friend.
