A northeastern Ohio sheriff says an armed man fatally shot by a deputy ignored several warnings to drop his gun and said "it's time to die" before raising his weapon.
The sheriff in Lake County says 54-year-old Thomas Hirko was shot after stabbing his wife late Thursday night.
Sheriff Daniel Dunlap says the woman was stabbed in the chest and back. He's says they're hopeful she'll survive.
The shooting happened outside a home in Perry Township, about 30 miles east of Cleveland.
The sheriff says the shooting is under review, but he thinks the deputies followed all guidelines in handling the confrontation.
He says his office discovered after the shooting that Hirko had barricaded himself in a home almost 10 years ago and threatened suicide.
