Five passengers were injured during an American Airlines flight from Grenada to Miami after the plane encountered unexpected turbulence, officials said Thursday.
Flight 982 landed at Miami International Airport shortly before noon without incident. The five passengers were taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
In a statement to the Miami Herald, American said the plane “encountered turbulence during the flight. The seatbelt sign was illuminated at the time and the pilots did not have any indication of severe turbulence in the area.”
The newspaper reported the plane was carrying 74 passengers and a five-member crew. The airline’s CARE team provided support to the injured passengers.
