HOOVER, Ala. – An Alabama woman who admitted stealing an elderly dementia patient's identity and using it to steal her money has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.
U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Craig Caldwell said 43-year-old Shostocka Keya Ward stole more than $300,000 from the victim's bank and credit accounts when Ward worked at a senior citizens living center in Hoover.
The Gadsden Times reports (http://bit.ly/1FSoDl0) that U.S. District Judge Abdul K. Kallon sentenced Ward of Pleasant Grove for bank fraud and aggravated identity theft Thursday.
According to Ward's guilty plea, she wrote more than $70,000 in unauthorized checks to herself and used the victim's credit cards to finance her wedding, someone's prison account, private school tuition payments and trips.
