A Brevard County sheriff's deputy is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery at a central Florida trauma center.

Cpl. Dave Jacobs told Florida Today (http://on.flatoday.com/1LnpTkd ) the department plans to release the names of the deputy and the man who shot him on Friday afternoon. The shooting happened in Port St. John Thursday night as deputies were serving a search warrant on a suspected prostitution ring.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey said during a news conference that the deputy was "ambushed."

Jacobs says the suspect is in stable condition in an area hospital.

The other deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Ivey asked residents to keep the deputy and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
