Underwriters claim hole-in-ones that prompted payouts at Greenbrier Classic were too short

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The $192,000 in payouts to fans attending the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic last month is now in dispute.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail (http://bit.ly/1hOdADR ) reports the tournament's London-based underwriters filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against The Greenbrier Classic's nonprofit financial arm, Old White Charities.

George McNeill and Justin Thomas each made aces from 137 yards with pitching wedges on the par-3 18th, prompting the payout. However, the underwriters say Old White Charities had agreed to a minimum distance of 170 yards.

The contest called for fans in the 18th-hole grandstands to receive $100 for the first ace, $500 for a second and $1,000 for a third. Tournament chairman and Greenbrier resort owner Jim Justice handed out the cash.

A message left for Old White Charities wasn't immediately returned Thursday.
