NEW ORLEANS – An activist who sat in a cypress tree for 12 days to protest the construction of a new golf course on an overgrown chunk of City Park has pleaded guilty to trespassing and resisting arrest.
The protester, Jonathan "Lloyd" Boover, 32, of New Orleans, was ordered to do 100 hours of community service, The New Orleans Advocate (http://bit.ly/1CEbMqp) reported.
Boover slipped through a fence set up around the golf course construction site in March and perched himself in a makeshift hammock about 30-feet high. During the protest, sheriff's deputies set up a round-the-clock watch.
His protest ended when he fell out of the tree March 24. He blamed the fall on hunger and deputies who blasted him with music and other noises.
