A 3-month-old puppy has been rescued from a sewage drainage pipe buried under the front yard of a home in Buffalo.

A couple who are dog sitting for their vacationing daughter say they took the teacup Yorkshire terrier named Baily out for a walk Wednesday afternoon and he tumbled into a sewer vent that didn't have a cover.

Buffalo firefighters arrived on the scene tried to coax Bailey out of the pipe, but it didn't work. Firefighters called a local demolition company, and two workers showed up with an excavator they used to dig a large hole around the pipe.

After about two hours, water authority workers cut away a piece of pipe and Bailey crawled out. A firefighter immediately administered oxygen to the dog, who was wet but otherwise unharmed.
