TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Gadsden County man who shot his sleeping wife in the head and then raped and murdered his stepdaughter is schedule to die by lethal injection at Florida State Prison.
Chadwick Banks, 43, is set to die Thursday for the 1992 murder of 10-year-old Melody Cooper. He is serving a life sentence for the murder of Cassandra Banks.
According to court documents, Banks retuned home at about 3 a.m. following a night of drinking and playing pool at a neighborhood bar. He shot his wife point blank in the head and then went to his stepdaughter's room, raped her and shot her through the top of the head. Evidence showed the girl fought her stepfather. His blood was under her fingernails and she was bruised and cut on the face.
