Emergency officials said about 75 homes are destroyed and hundreds of people have evacuated the area after a wildfire burned up to 2 square miles in the Texas Panhandle.
No one has been reported injured from the fire near the small town of Fritch, some 30 miles northeast of Amarillo.
Officials said Monday afternoon that firefighters have stopped the spread of flames and are now mostly responding to hotspots and smoldering buildings.
Hutchinson County's assistant emergency management coordinator Jason Wright says a mobile-home community is at the center of the blaze.
The county's emergency management coordinator Danny Richards said about 75 homes are destroyed and hundreds of the town's 2,100 residents have left the area. Some stayed at a school gymnasium.
"We realize many people have lost their homes to this tragic event," the Hutchinson County LEPC Emergency Notification said in a statement on its Facebook page. "Over the next several days we will be working to establish relief funds and other types of financial aid that will help people who have suffered a loss."
