Two armed men kicked open the front door or a Lafayette, La., home early Wednesday morning and were greeted by a homeowner who opened fire, killing one of the suspects, police told FoxNews.com.

Many details of the home invasion remain unclear, but police have some of the broad strokes.

Cpl. Paul Mouton said the two masked suspects were armed with handguns forced their way into the home. Once inside the home, the suspects exchanged gunfire with the home owner, he said.

One of the suspects was fatally shot and the second suspect ran from the scene and was seen entering a light colored 4-door vehicle. Police indicated that there may be more suspects in the case.

No one in the home was injured. Police have not released the name of the dead suspect.
