University of San Diego holds drag show despite Catholic protests

The University of San Diego has held a show on its campus featuring drag queens, despite repeated protests from Catholic students in the days leading up to the event.

The show, called "Supreme Drag Superstar," took place last week in the university’s Shiley Theatre.

During the show, a group of Catholics, including students, prayed the rosary in protest in another part of the campus, 10 News reports.

“The problem with what the school is doing is that it's essentially saying this lifestyle is not only acceptable, but that it’s also morally OK,"Gerry Urbanek, a University of San Diego student, told the station. "I think that’s creating a conflict and I think a lot of Catholics on campus are feeling defensive about that."

The university said they let the show go on because they support dignity and equality, NBC San Diego reports.
