A California high school sophomore says she was shocked when a video sting she set up to catch a thief stealing out of students' backpacks allegedly revealed an unlikely culprit: her teacher.

News10 reports student Justine Betti claims she decided to investigate after her classmates complained things were missing from their backpacks after gym class. Justine hid in a locker to catch the culprit, and says she was shocked to see her teacher rifling through students' belongings.

"After all the kids left she stayed in there and went through people's backpacks," Justine told News10. "I saw her take money and then I told people and nobody believed me."

Justine says she decided she needed proof, and hid two phones with cameras in the lockers on Feb. 13.

News10 reports the video shows the teacher going through backpacks, apparently taking money from a pink backpack.

"I didn't want to believe that she would do something like that because she was so nice, but then she did it," Justine said.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave while both the Linden School District and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department investigate the alleged incident, but no charges have yet been filed.
