Frightened moviegoers fled in horror after a 17-year-old allegedly donned a "Joker" mask inside a Colorado movie theater late Sunday.

The suspect, whose name has not been released because he is a minor, was arrested and charged with five counts of misdemeanor menacing for allegedly wearing the mask and a clown hat during a late-night movie at Century Boulder Theater in Boulder.

The group of at least five moviegoers who saw him and reported the incident were so frightened they ran from the theater, according to the theater’s manager.

Police say the suspect told them he was aware of the mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado in July, which left 12 dead and dozens injured. The suspect in the massacre, James Holmes, reportedly identified himself as Batman's arch-nemesis the "Joker" and appeared in court with his hair dyed red similar to the character's.

The suspect, who according to police is a part time student at a local college, also told police he wanted to scare his friends and planned on being the "Joker" next Halloween.

He is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
