Quick-thinking bystanders are being credited for saving a Massachusetts woman and her 4-year-old son after the mother lost footing and fell onto the tracks during Wednesday’s rush hour.

The woman told an MBTA Red Line Inspector that she had seen a train berthed on the northbound platform at the Kendall Station and believed she could board it from the southbound side, MyFoxBoston.com reported.

Video surveillance captured the woman and her son walking off the edge of the southbound platform around 6 p.m. on Wednesday. As soon as bystanders realized she and her son were on the tracks, they jumped down and helped get them back onto the platform.

The woman and her son did not have any visible injuries, but were taken to Mass General Hospital for evaluation.
