New York Jets star wide receiver Braylon Edwards is due for a court date in Cleveland to discuss whether he violated his probation there by driving drunk in New York City.

Cleveland Municipal Court spokesman Ed Ferenc (FEHR'-enz) said Monday the court system was calling Edwards to an Aug. 8 hearing. Edwards' lawyer, Peter Frankel, declined to comment.

Edwards pleaded guilty Friday in New York to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated. That case will be closed without jail time or probation if he meets conditions that include paying a $500 fine and staying in an NFL substance abuse counseling program.

He's been on probation in Cleveland since January 2010. He pleaded no contest there to a misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct charge stemming from a fracas outside a nightclub.
