Arizona's 'Rock Burglar' Arrested After 337 Heists Over 17 years

One of Arizona's lengthiest crime sprees came to an end Friday when police arrested the "Rock Burglar" who had eluded capture for 17 years.

Robert James Neese -- thought to be responsible for 337 burglaries in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills and Cave Creek, raking in as much as $10 million in jewelry and cash -- was taken into custody at South Phoenix restaurant at 8:00am

The 58-year-old is dubbed the "Rock Burglar" because he gained entry into homes by throwing a rock through a window.

Neese first struck in 1993, the same year Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio took office.

"I always said throughout my career one day I want to catch the 'Rock Burglar' on my watch," Arpaio said Friday. "Thank law enforcement officers for making that come true."
