A police officer was shot and killed early Thursday morning during a standoff in a trailer park in eastern Colorado.

More than two dozen law enforcement officers were on the scene 90 miles southeast of Denver, where a suspect had barricaded himself inside a mobile home.

State Trooper Heather Cobler said Limon police officer Jay Sheridan was shot by the suspect as officers attempted to serve him with a fugitive warrant.

Reports indicated that Sheridan was removed from the scene by ambulance around 7:30 p.m., Fox 31 reported.

Police set up a perimeter around the scene, Fox 31 reported, and sometime during the standoff, the suspect killed himself.

The man’s body was found hours later when authorities entered the residence, Cobler said.

Up to 20 nearby residents had been evacuated during the standoff.

The Associated Press and Newscore contributed to this report.
