Investigators say an armed couple stole ammunition and scopes from a Southern California shooting range before hopping into a pickup truck and leading officers on a wild freeway chase.

Dozens of black and white Los Angeles County sheriff's squad cars were trailing the white Nissan pickup when a tire flattened and the couple surrendered just after 7 a.m. on Interstate 10 in West Covina.

Sheriff's Capt. Michael Parker said the couple wore ski masks when the robbed the closed Burro Shooting Range near Azusa at 6:38 a.m. Monday and ammo and rifle scopes. Guns at the facility were locked down and they couldn't get them.

They fired a high-powered rifle when an employee showed up, but no one was struck and the chase was on.
