For one million dollars, you could buy a house, a luxury yacht or a lifetime's supply of fancy clothes. Or you could find out the real name of Banksy.
An eBay user called "jaybuysthings" is currently auctioning off the opportunity to discover the true identity of the mysterious British graffiti artist.
"If you win this auction I will mail you a piece of paper revealing the true identity of 'Banksy,'" the item description reads. "I have uncovered his identity by matching up the prices of his sold pieces to corresponding tax records. I will reveal no more details.
"The winner of this auction is the only person I will ever share this information with. The piece of paper will say his name, nothing more.
"I give you 100% assurance that it is most certainly the full name of the street artist known as 'Banksy.'"
According to the seller's details, he or she is located in the US, joined eBay in August 2000 and has no items other than "The Identity of 'Banksy'" available for sale. The current bid stands at $999,999 -- and shipping is free.
The seller said a previous attempt to sell Banksy's identity on the site had been shut down, "because I was selling something that was not 'tangible.'"
"It is now tangible," he or she said of the piece of paper.
