Shoplifting Arrest Leads to Indictment of New Jersey Man in 1982 Murder

HACKENSACK, N.J. – A 47-year-old New Jersey man accused of killing his neighbor in 1982 is facing a murder indictment.

Bergen County prosecutors say Angelo Speziale raped and killed 19-year-old Michelle Mika. Speziale's DNA was put in a national database after a 2005 shoplifting conviction and he was charged in 2007 after his DNA matched evidence from the scene.

Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Catherine Fantuzzi says Speziale can't be charged with burglary or sexual assault because of the statute of limitations.

Speziale was indicted Tuesday by a Bergen County grand jury.
