Oregon names Marcus Arroyo its new passing game coordinator

Marcus Arroyo will become Oregon's new passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, a source told FOX Sports Thursday.

The 37-year-old Northern California native is returning to the West Coast after spending two seasons as Oklahoma State's running backs coach. Prior to that, the former San Jose State quarterback was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterbacks coach in 2014 and had coached in the Pac-12 at Cal as the Bears quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator from 2011-12.

Under Arroyo's guidance, Cal quarterback Zach Maynard reached the No. 10 spot on the career list at the school in both passing yards (5,204) and total offense (5,350) in only two seasons. His 128.36 career passer efficiency rating is ninth on the school's all-time list. Arroyo gave Cal a big jolt in 2011 during his first-year of working with the team's quarterbacks, especially in the passing game where the Golden Bears jumped from No. 94 in the country in 2010 (175.08 ypg) to No. 46 in the country in 2011 (246.62 ypg).
