The United States women's gymnastics team picked up two more medals Sunday in the first day of individual event finals, as Simone Biles crushed the field once again to pick up gold on the vault and Madison Kocian finished just seven hundreths of a point away from a gold in the uneven bars.

After Gabby Douglas faltered in her routine to miss a shot at the poduim, two of the favorites to take gold in the uneven bars, Russia's Aliya Mustafina and the United States' Madison Kocian, performed back-to-back - and each had a brilliant performance. Mustafina had a slight edge of one tenth of a point on her difficulty value over Kocian, and after a slight hop on her dismount and received a score of 15.900.

Kocian followed with a solid routine - though NBC commentators noted that she made slight errors with her handstands while on the bar - and stuck her landing. When the her score of 15.833 flashed on the scoreboard, Kocian kept her cool - but her teammates watching in the stands were unhappy.
