Scottish side Aberdeen crashed out of European contention in the worst possible way, after a devastating own-goal against NK Maribor knocked them out of the Europa League third qualifying round.
Aberdeen just needed a goal to go through after a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg, but they simply couldn't get the job done. Instead, it was the cruelest of heartbreaks when in stoppage time Graeme Shinnie's tame back-pass to goalkeeper Joe Lewis hopped over his foot and trickled into the back of the net for the most embarrasing of own goals.
Aberdeen should have known it just wasn't to be their day. Earlier in the match, the Scots thought they had scored to make it 1-0, but the referee bizarrely called the play back and awarded a penalty kick instead, which Aberdeen missed.
