MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota deputy athletic director Beth Goetz, passed over for the top job, has decided to leave the university to become the chief operating officer of the Connecticut athletic department.
Goetz was appointed interim athletic director at Minnesota last August, when her boss Norwood Teague resigned amid complaints of sexual harassment. Goetz was one of the leading candidates to replace him, but Minnesota hired Syracuse athletic director Mark Coyle last month.
At UConn, the 41-year-old Goetz will oversee all operations of the athletic department and serve as the sport administrator for football.

Minnesota announced the departure Thursday of Goetz, who was hired by Teague in March 2013 to be his deputy. For nearly five years prior to that, Goetz was an associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at Butler.
