BALTIMORE (AP) New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a knee injury.

Teixeira hurt his right knee in Friday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles and was removed in the third inning.

Manager Joe Girardi said Teixeira's knee ''locked up'' on him. The injury has been diagnosed as a right knee articular cartilage tear, and the veteran was placed on the DL Saturday.

It's been a tough season for Teixeira, who's batting .180 with three homers and 12 RBIs. He was mired in a 1-for-18 slump through Friday.

Last year, he hit 31 homers, drove in 79 runs and earned a berth in the All-Star Game for the third time.

The Yankees filled out the 25-man roster by selecting the contract of infielder Chris Parmelee from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Utility man Dustin Ackley, who has a dislocated right shoulder, was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
