A groin injury could sideline Eric Weddle for a big divisional home game.
The Chargers are ready if it does. They've elevated Adrian Phillips from the 10-player practice squad for additional safety depth.
Phillips was released to make roster room for Antonio Gates on Oct. 12. He cleared waivers and was immediately added back to the practice squad.
He'll be asked to do more than prepare starters this week. Phillips will play a role on special teams coverage, especially if team captain Darrell Stuckey is forced to play more safety vs. Oakland.
