Miocic vs. Arlovski joins Lawler vs. Condit at UFC 195 on Jan. 2

A heavyweight fight with title implications on the line will co-headline UFC 195 in Las Vegas as No. 3 ranked Stipe Miocic takes on No. 4 ranked Andrei Arlovski on January 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

UFC officials confirmed the bout via the L.A. Times on Wednesday.

The matchup gets made just a week after Miocic was forced to pull out of his most recent bout against Ben Rothwell due to injury for the card taking place this weekend in Dublin, Ireland.

Miocic didn't suffer a major setback, so the UFC was able to book him for a new fight away with the card taking place on New Year's Eve weekend in Las Vegas.

The Ohio native is coming off a punishing win over former title contender Mark Hunt as he attempts to earn a title shot for the first time since joining the UFC in 2011.

Meanwhile, Arlovski will attempt to earn a title shot of his own after a career rejuvenation has seen him set the heavyweight division on fire since coming back to the UFC just over a year ago.

A former UFC champion, Arlovski experienced a lot of highs and lows after leaving the promotion several years back but since returning he's gone 4-0, including victories over Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, Travis Browne and Frank Mir.

The winner of Miocic vs. Arlovski could very well end up fighting for the UFC heavyweight title later in the year after the rematch between current champ Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez takes place.

The new heavyweight bout will serve as the new co-main event for UFC 195, which is headlined by welterweight champion Robbie Lawler putting his belt on the line against Carlos Condit in a five-round battle at 170 pounds.
