TCU coach Gary Patterson was optimistic Tuesday that senior defensive tackle Davion Pierson would make his season debut Saturday against SMU.

On Wednesday, Patterson reversed field, telling reporters after practice that his most experienced defensive player would miss a third consecutive game. Peirson has been out with an undisclosed injury.

The Horned Frogs' defense has been decimated by injury in the early season with five starters out -- one, true freshman linebacker Mike Freeze, took a leave of absence.
