Former Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt is the latest recipient of the New York Athletic Club's Winged Foot Legends Award.

The award recognizes coaches and other individuals who were particularly influential within the sport of college basketball. Previous winners included John Wooden, Dean Smith, Bob Knight, Al McGuire, Ray Lumpp and Lou Carnesecca.

Summitt accepted the award Tuesday during a lunch at the New York Athletic Club.

Summitt stepped down as Tennessee's coach last April after announcing in 2011 that she has early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Summitt won 1,098 games and eight national titles in 38 seasons, giving her the most career Division I victories of any men's or women's coach in history. She remains on Tennessee's staff as head coach emeritus.
