Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin returns to the majors for the first time since May when the Colorado Rockies visit the New York Mets in the second of four games at Citi Field.
A 24-year-old Venezuelan, Chacin was 0-3 in five starts to begin the season before being placed on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation on May 2.
The DL trip came a day after Chacin's third loss, in which he was roughed up for 11 hits and seven runs in just 4 2/3 innings of a 7-6 loss to Los Angeles.
In 24 2/3 innings across five outings, he's allowed 20 runs on 31 hits and walked 15 batters, while surrendering a .304 opposition batting average.
Chacin was an 11-game winner in 31 starts last season and allowed a .231 average.
He's posted a 1.29 earned run average in seven innings against the Mets over two career appearances.
New York starts Chris Young, a 33-year-old with just one win since late June.
The Texas-born right-hander was 2-1 on the season after defeating Los Angeles, 3-2, on June 28, but has since dropped five of six decisions while watching his ERA swell from 3.30 to 4.50.
He tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings in a tough-luck no-decision against Cincinnati on Aug. 14, in a game the Reds won, 3-0.
Young is 5-3 in 13 career games against Colorado with a 4.02 ERA.
On Monday, Jonathan Herrera scored the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning on a passed ball as the Rockies downed the Mets, 3-1.
Herrera reached on a bunt single and moved to second on Josh Edgin's (1-1) throwing error to first. He scampered to third on Chris Nelson's sacrifice bunt and scored when Kelly Shoppach was unable to hang onto an Edgin slider.
The Mets loaded the bases with two outs in the home half. Jordany Valdespin bounced one down the first-base line, but Tyler Colvin made a backhanded stab and flipped to the covering Matt Belisle, who just got to the bag in time to nab the sliding Valdespin.
Colorado added an insurance run in the ninth on Ramon Hernandez's RBI single to left field and Rafael Betancourt tossed a scoreless home half to notch his 24th save of the season.
Colvin smacked a solo homer, while Rex Brothers (7-2) struck out two over 1 1/3 scoreless frames to pick up the win.
Alex White started the game for Colorado and allowed a run on three hits and two walks in four innings.
R.A. Dickey fanned six and surrendered a run on three hits and two walks in seven innings for the Mets, who have lost five of their last seven games. With a no decision, Dickey still has 15 wins on the year, one behind Cincinnati's Johnny Cueto and Washington's Gio Gonzalez for the National League lead.
"When you get a well-pitched game like he gave us it's frustrating and the guys are frustrated by it," Mets manager Terry Collins said about the loss. "We're just not producing runs."
The Mets won two of three games from the Rockies in April in Denver, while the Rockies won five of seven between the teams in 2011.
