The defending champion St. Louis Cardinals made a move to bolster their bullpen on Tuesday by acquiring Edward Mujica from the Miami Marlins.

The Cardinals sent third baseman Zack Cox to Miami.

Mujica is in his second year with the Marlins and is 0-3 with a 4.38 earned run average in 41 games this year. He was a solid relief option last year for the team, going 9-6 with a 2.96 ERA in 67 games.

In his seven-year career with Cleveland, San Diego and Miami, Mujica is 17-18 with a 4.13 ERA in 287 games.

Cox, the Cardinals' first-round pick in 2010, is hitting .254 with a .294 on- base percentage and .421 slugging percentage in 84 games for Triple-A Memphis.
