Bruce Chen (3-4) surrendered two runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning four in 6 1/3 innings for the Royals, who snapped a three-game losing skid.

Chris Getz slapped an RBI single up the middle in the second and Butler belted a two-run shot over the wall in left-center in the third.

The Diamondbacks finally broke through in the seventh with a pair of runs. Ryan Roberts lined an RBI double to left and Willie Bloomquist's run-scoring single through the hole on the right side cut the deficit to 7-2.
