The Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday signed year contract with a club option for 2013.

The 33-year-old has played in the outfield and at first base while also serving as a designated hitter throughout his career.

"Luke has established himself as one of the better power hitters in baseball, with consistent success in a variety of roles against both right- and left- handed pitchers," said Andrew Friedman, executive vice president of baseball operations. "He's shown he can perform in the American League East and we expect him to be healthy and productive again in 2012."

A torn right labrum ended Scott's 2011 season with Baltimore in July.

The Florida native has batted .264 with 112 home runs and 341 RBI in 702 career games with Houston and Baltimore.
