Las Vegas, NV – Instead of reporting to jail Friday to serve day sentence for a domestic violence conviction, Floyd Mayweather Jr. learned he would be free for another five months.
Mayweather's defense attorneys were granted a request by a Las Vegas judge to allow the boxer to report to jail June 1, almost four weeks after a scheduled fight.
In its report, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said several celebrities appeared Friday on behalf of Mayweather, including singer RayJ and rapper Lil' Kim.
Mayweather received his jail term after striking a plea deal last month to avoid felony charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend and their two children in 2010.
He pleaded guilty to one count of battery-domestic violence and no contest to two counts of harassment and received a 90-day sentence.
Mayweather's former girlfriend, Josie Harris, claimed on September 9, 2010, that the boxer beat her and threatened her and their children. Felony charges filed afterward could have landed Mayweather behind bars for up to 34 years.
The 34-year-old champion is 42-0 with 26 knockouts in his 15-year career.
Boxing fans and observers have long awaited a fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
