Houston Texans linebacker Mario Williams will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said Williams will go on injured reserve and undergo surgery. Rookie linebacker Brooks Reed will take Williams' place in the starting lineup.

Williams was hurt during the first quarter of Sunday's 25-20 loss to Oakland.

The former No. 1 overall draft pick recorded his fifth sack of the season on Raiders quarterback Jason Campbell before leaving the game.

Williams, 26, has 241 tackles and 53 sacks since he was drafted by the Texans in 2006. He has missed only three of a possible 85 NFL games and has started the other 82.

Kubiak added that fullback James Casey is day-to-day with a pectoral sprain.
