Denver, CO – The Houston Astros placed pitcher Sergio day disabled list on Wednesday.
The left-handed Escalona, whose move is retroactive to August 22, is suffering from tendinitis in his left elbow.
Over 48 appearances out of the bullpen this season, he is 2-1 with a 3.00 earned run average.
To take this spot on the roster, the team recalled right Juan Abreu from Triple-A Oklahoma.
Acquired on July 31 from the Atlanta Braves as part of the Michael Bourn trade, it will be Abreu's first stint on a Major League roster.
