If Daniel Sedin does not hoist the Stanley Cup this season, he'll do something that hasn't been done in 28 years.
Sedin, the Canucks' shifty goal-scoring wing, was the 2011 recipient of the Art Ross Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL's top regular season point scorer.
And when Vancouver clinched a berth in the Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday night -- with a Game 5 double overtime victory against San Jose in the Western Conference Finals -- Sedin joined a long list of Art Ross winners who have carried their teams deep into the playoffs.
However, the last time an Art Ross winner has reached the Stanley Cup Final and lost was when Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers were defeated by the Islanders in 1983.
Since then, the past six winners of the Art Ross Trophy who reached the Final have ended the season by winning the Stanley Cup.
The list includes Gretzky, who won the award and the Cup three times -- in 1984, 1985 and 1987, also with the Oilers. Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux was the Art Ross winner in 1992 before leading the Penguins to a Stanley Cup Final win against the Blackhawks, Martin St. Louis earned both distinctions in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning while Evgeni Malkin matched it with the Penguins in 2009.
Last season, Henrik Sedin -- Daniel's twin brother and teammate -- won the Art Ross Trophy, however the Canucks didn't make it past the Western Conference Semifinals.
