Grapevine: American distrust in media rises

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

This Just In

60 percent of Americans do not trust the media.

Gallup says that is a record high.

The number of Americans who have little or no confidence that news is reported fairly continues its steady increase.

Media trust is lowest among Independents and Republicans.

They lose the most confidence in traditional news sources during presidential election years while more than half of Democrats retain a great deal or fair amount of trust.

Talking the Talk

You've heard President Obama rail against China's unfair trade policies in recent days. Now it seems his administration is not sticking to the script.

The Washington Times reports the General Services Administration (GSA) approved the purchase of Chinese solar panels for a federal building even though it violates the buy-American provision of the stimulus law.

Also this week Abound Solar -- a solar panel manufacturer that was given a $400 million government loan guarantee by the Obama administration went on the auction block.

Abound announced bankruptcy in June about nine months after another benefactor of the government loan guarantee program, Solyndra.

Tee'd Off

And finally, earlier this week the Daily Caller reported that We Are Golf -- a pro-golf lobby -- sent a letter to Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio after his GOP convention quip about the president's frequent golfing, asking him to -- quote-- "Please reconsider your political strategy of criticizing President Obama's passion for golf."

The group says the criticism hurts the industry and its employees. The Daily Caller now points out the golf coalition is represented by Tony Podesta, a Democratic lobbyist with very close ties to the White House.

We Are Golf contends the issue is not political it just wants to prevent unnecessary regulation of the links.

The president has played 104 rounds of golf since taking office.
