Grapevine: Democrats skipping the party

And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Playing Catch Up

The big story in Washington is the White House asserting executive privilege over the Fast and Furious documents and a contempt resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder now out of committee with a pending contempt vote in the full House.

However, "NBC Nightly News" is playing some serious catch-up because the network news show has only mentioned the failed gun tracking program Fast and Furious once for a few seconds since the scandal broke last year.

Keep in mind Attorney General Holder has testified before Congress no less than nine times.

Meanwhile, there is nary a mention in today's New York Times of Holder's meeting with House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa Tuesday or the possible contempt of Congress resolution.

Party Pooper

More Democrats are saying they'll skip their party's convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Pennsylvania Congressman Mark Critz's campaign spokesman told local media internal polling shows President Obama down double digits behind Mitt Romney in Critz's re-drawn district.

That made the decision -- quote -- "pretty easy"-- adding it's fair to say Critz will not ask the president to campaign with him.

New York Representatives Bill Owens and Kathy Hochul are also opting out of Charlotte.

These announcements follow "no's" from three high-profile West Virginia Democrats we told you about this week.

Like Last Year?

And finally, like last year, President Obama was seen chewing gum during G-20 summit meetings in Mexico.

The president has been caught a handful of times smacking away and is known to chew gum to help him stay tobacco-free.

Unlike last year, President Obama managed to avoid obscuring any other world leader's face with a wave during the class photo.

Last time, President Obama's wave momentarily covered up India's prime minister.

That followed a United Nations' gathering when President Obama blocked the Mongolian president's face.
