A Colombian man who was stabbed in the eye with a knife, which pierced his brain, has survived, maintaining 90 percent of his sight and suffering no brain damage.

Alberto Palacio Vizcaino, 22, of Soledad, was involved in a conflict with Daniel Del Valle Serrano, 22, Central European News (CEN) reported. Serrano had a relationship with Alberto’s 17-year-old sister.

Witnesses said Serrano stabbed Vizcaino directly in his left eye and ran off.

"He swore at me, took a knife out, and when I tried to step back from him, he simply attacked,” Vizcaino told local media, according to CEN. Vizcaino tried to take the knife out but couldn’t.

After being taken to the hospital, Vizcaino waited 18 hours with the blade in his head. When doctors examined him, they found the knife had penetrated 3.1 inches into the side of his eye socket, and that the weapon had also pierced his brain.

"I see really clear. I don’t feel anything,” Vizcaino told CEN. He’s now in stable condition, and doctors are determining what procedures he must undergo next.

Authorities haven’t located Serrano since the attack.
