The cast of the upcoming “Harry Potter” spinoff “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” got political while promoting the film at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con by calling for the impeachment of President Trump.
The cast arrived at a film's panel, where they dropped a new trailer for the upcoming sequel to “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and took some questions about their role in the “Harry Potter” universe.
Zoe Kravitz, who plays Leta Lestrange, was asked what the cast would do if they had real-life magical powers.
“Impeach Trump!” she said to cheers from the audience.
However, as Entertainment Weekly notes, not everyone in the room was thrilled with the answer. Things softened a bit when actor Dan Fogler was asked what such a spell would be called, quipping, “Impeachius Maximus!”
Ezra Miller, who plays Credence Barbone, gave his own political spin on the question, noting that he’d use his magical powers to “smash the patriarchy.”
Later in the panel, attendees were shocked to see Johnny Depp arrive for a surprise visit. Adorned in the full wardrobe of his character, the titular dark wizard Grindelwald, to give an in-character speech about wizard supremacy calling on those who live for “freedom and truth” to rise up and take their “rightful place in the world.”
“I’m enlisted by Dumbledore to try and track him down and capture him,” Eddie Redmayne, who plays the film’s hero Newt Scamander told EW. “What’s happened is Grindelwald’s belief that purebloods should reign over all non-magical beings is a political thing. He’s rallying more and more people and it causes divisions across families. He’s pretty hypnotic.”
