'DWTS': Nancy Kerrigan melts down during rehearsal

Fox411: Nancy Kerrigan says her 'DWTS' meltdown was overblown

Ice skater Nancy Kerrigan was shown melting down in rehearsal footage aired on "Dancing with the Stars."

That was part of the drama during Monday night's show, in which former "Saturday Night Live" comedian Chris Kattan was the first celebrity eliminated and Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei and football player Rashad Jennings tied for first place.

Graceful Kerrigan won two Olympic medals but is unfortunately known for being whacked on the knee by an assailant hired by the ex-husband of Tonya Harding. After the 1994 attack, Kerrigan cried, "Why, why, why?"

"DWTS" rehearsal footage showed dance partner Artem Chigvintsev telling Kerrigan she looked good.

Talking to herself, emotional Kerrigan retreated behind a door and said, "He's trying to give me a compliment and I don't like it!"

Kerrigan explained to the cameras that she'd been "judged my whole life" and found it hard to accept praise.

After the show, Kerrigan told FOX411 that the rehearsal moment was overblown, saying, "That was like five minutes of the whole week! We're truly having a ton of fun…most of the time, we're just laughing.

"Sometimes it's rough and frustrating in practice -- but we were there for like four or five hours."

When asked if she's tired of being always known for the Harding-related incident, married mom of three Kerrigan shrugged to FOX411, "I mean, I guess it was part of my life but yeah, things have moved on way beyond that. I'm having a great time here."

Kerrigan told reporters she's had no further problems from the knee that notoriously got hit--but she did admit to having "spine issues, so that's sort of annoying. I need surgery on my spine when I'm done with this [show].

"Actually, when I got asked [to do "DWTS], I was in the neurosurgeon's office…but I just wanted to be here. During the little breaks, it's a lot of stretching and stuff to make sure I'm standing up straight."

The famed ice skater hopes to "become more confident, not be so nervous" by doing "DWTS."

Meanwhile, Kordei and partner Val Chmerkovskiy earned 32 points, just like Jennings and his partner Emma Slater, who danced a Viennese waltz.

In rehearsal, Jennings told how he had to break off a relationship on the brink of a proposal. He channeled the emotion into his Monday night dance. The football running back said afterwards, "It's a vulnerable thing that we can all relate to. We've all loved and lost at some point in time."

Heather Morris had to dance with fill-in Alan Bersten after her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy hurt his calf in rehearsal. They got a score of 30, good for second place.

Morris was a backup dancer for Beyonce before doing "Glee," and busted out some of the pop star's hip hop style moves at the end of her jive. This didn't sit well with judge Len Goodman, who sniffed, "I know you're great at hip hop….I don't want to see that."

Injured partner Maks said that he was having his calf checked by a doctor on Tuesday and sighed, "Fingers crossed. It's actually not one of those 'ice it and come back to work the next day' [things] as I'd hoped."

Bull rider Bonner Bolton, who stoked controversy last week by hinting at a romance with partner Sharna Burgess and being seen grabbing her inappropriately, tied for second place with a 29 score.

They now deny they're dating, even though on Monday night, cameras showed them holding hands in practice.

Bolton said after the show about the alleged crotch grab, "There was a big buzz over this whole thing but more important is the fact that I came here, told my story…and I think it's time to redirect the focus….I have all the respect for this young lady."

"The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Erica Jayne got 28 points, tying with Kerrigan, while former Chicago Cubs baseball player David Ross continued to look like a breakout star, getting a solid 27 for his high-energy '90s homage cha cha.

Ross told reporters later of shaking it with partner Lindsay Arnold, "I've always had fun dancing, but nothing like this. It's taken me further and further out of my shell."

Charo and Bachelor Nick Viall both got scores of 25, while Mr. T and Kattan tied for last place with 22 scores on Monday night.

But it was Kattan who went home. As FOX411 readers know, Kattan danced bravely as he had broken his neck 20 years before on a stunt and endured four surgeries. But he got shockingly low 4s last week from the judges which meant the writing was on the wall.
