Canadian singer/songwriter Sam Mendes was at the iHeartradio Music Awards in Los Angeles Sunday, and he couldn’t say enough good things about his upcoming tour partner, Taylor Swift.

“I can’t wait. It’s going to be so good,” he told FOX411. “She’s the best person in the world, so I am very excited.”

Mendes, 16, is set to be one of the opening acts on Taylor’s “The 1989 World Tour” along with Vance Joy. His first performance with the tour will be on May 22nd, 2015 at the LSU Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

He’s also excited about his upcoming album, “Handwritten.”

“’Handwritten’ will be out on April 14th so I am actually thrilled. I worked very, very hard on the album. It’s actually come together very quickly so I am excited to see people’s reactions.”

Mendes said he was inspired to write the album by events and experiences in his life, much like his soon-to-be tour mate. (Although we’re not sure he’s old enough for any breakup songs.)

Shawn’s fan base, “The Mendes Army,” was nominated for the category of Best Fan Army at the iHeartradio Music Awards where they were in competition with Taylor’s fan base, the “Swifties.” But it was the 5SOSFAM fan army of boy band 5 Seconds of Summer that ended up walking away with this award.

Taylor Swift still won big at the 2015 iHeartradio Music Awards taking home 3 awards, including the highly prized Artist of the Year.

The 1989 World Tour kicks off with a solo performance by Swift on May 5th in Tokyo, Japan.
