Shakira made headlines recently when she said her longtime boyfriend, soccer star Gerard Piqué, was territorial and didn't want her working with other men.
But, apparently, she was just trying to be funny.
The Colombian superstar took to Facebook recently to set the record straight.
“Hey guys – I recently said in some interviews that my man could be territorial,” she wrote last week. “For the record, I was being humorous and now I see that some press took it very literally!”
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, who took the stage at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday, made the statements about her baby daddy while speaking at Ryan Seacrest’s radio show in February.
She told the radio host that before she began filming the music video for “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” a racy music video with Rihanna, she got the stamp of approval from Piqué .
“I told him. I asked him if he agreed with everything and he agreed,” the 37-year-old told Seacrest. “I wanted to make sure because he is super jealous. He’s territorial. He wants to know everything is under control.”
In a subsequent interview in Cartagena, Colombia, the singer also quipped that Piqué does not let her do videos with men so she has to make them with women.
In an attempt to clarify her previous statements, Shakira wrote on Facebook: “The reality is that we have a beautiful relationship of mutual trust, and jealousy has never been an issue on either side. Next time I promise, I’ll be more careful when attempting to use my sense of humor, as clearly it can be easily misinterpreted!”
