It was a night full of passionate Latin dances – and the first elimination of the new season of “Dancing with the Stars.”

So who was sent home Monday night? Was it Bill Nye who had last week’s lowest scores but was the crowd favorite?

Nye was safe for another week and it was former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson who failed to garner enough support from home voters to stay.

While the former wide receiver was disappointed to go home so early – “I told you I was going to go home week two,” he said after learning the results – Johnson said the experience “has been amazing.”

He said his partner Sharna Burgess was a great choreographer and he had hoped he could have done more to help her win.

The duo danced a samba and impressed the judges with his confidence and effort, but he lacked timing in his steps.

“I admire your effort. You were working your [butt] off,” said head judge Len Goodman. “For me that was better than last week.”

It was not enough though to get more than 6s across the board, which combined with last week’s scores and the votes from viewers, put him in last place.

As for the rest of the couples – well – actress Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovsky kicked it off with their samba which judges called “fantastic.” Goodman said it was “so close” and awarded them a 9 which added to the pair of 8s by judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, gave them a score of 25.

Edging last week’s leaders Amber Riley and Derek Hough were actor Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff who did a jive tribute to his “High School Musical” days. They scored 26.

Most improved of the night was probably actress Leah Remini, whose samba with Tony Dolovani got her a standing ovation and a score of 24.

Other scores for Monday’s show were:

Christina Milian and Mark Ballas danced a paso doble and received a score of 25/30 for a total of 47/60.

Bill Engvail and Emma Slater – in the bottom two – danced the jive and received a score of 21/ and a total score of 39/60.

Jack Osborne and Cheryl Burke did the rumba. They got a 24 for a total score of 47/60.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Sasha Farber danced the rumba and received a 20/30 for a total score on 43/60.

Bill Nye danced the paso doble with Tyne Stecklein. They received a 17/30 and a total score of 31/60.

Valerie Harper and Tristan MacManus also did a paso doble and received a 19/30 for their effort and a total of 40/60.

Brant Daughtery and Peta Murgatroyd danced a rumba and got a score of 23/30 for a total score of 45/60.

Amber Riley jived with Derek Hough. They got a score of 24/30 and a total score of 51/60.

All scores this week were added to last week’s. Judges’ votes count for half, while fan votes count for the other half.

“Dancing With The Stars” returns Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.
