Javier Bardem, whose wife Penélope Cruz recently confirmed they will be parents for a second time, was all smiles Sunday night at the Goya Awards ceremony — Spain's main national film awards, considered to be the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars.

He took home a statue for a documentary he narrated, “Sons of the Clouds,” which looks at how colonization of the Western Sahara has left nearly nearly 200,000 people living in refugee camps.

Bardem was joined on the stage by director Alvaro Longoria and producer Lilly Hartley, according to entertainment site JustJared.com, and he used his acceptance speech to speak out about human rights in Sahara. His mother, Pilar, was also in attendance.

Actress Maribel Verdú beat Naomi Watts, Penélope Cruz and Aida Folch for her role as the cruel stepmother in “Blancanieves.” Fellow Latino Paco Delgado, who is nominated for an Academy Award in the wardrobe category for “Les Miserables,” received a Goya award for his masterpiece costumes for Verdú’s character in “Blancanieves.”

The movie also took home awards for best original score and best original song.
